Our Kantrowitz clan. Front row is Samuel and Esther Kantrowitz. Behind them, all their children: Abe, Ralph, Cele, Jake, Harry. Glaring into the sun, they look like quite a formidable bunch, don't they? They did have quite fierce intelligences--but I remember their gentleness, loyalty, kindness and laughter the most

Brothers of my grandfather with their wives
Everyone is dressed for a simcha. I wonder where they were going. Nuchameyer met Mirka on the boat emigrating from Russia. They went to Cuba first because of quotas in the USA. Nuchamayer had to change his last name to Mirka's name in order to emigrate to Cuba. Otherwise, he would have been sent back to Russia. Eventually, they settled in Springfield. I can vaguely remember visiting with family in Springfield when I was a munchkin.
Louis' wife Bertha was also the sister of my Bubbie Esther Kantrowitz.

Kantrowitz family; Mother, sister, brothers, wives at Dick Israel's wedding:

My parents on a date:

All the 2020 comparisons  to the Spanish flu remind me that's why our  family moved from Newark to Bridgeport.

891 Hancock Avenue Bridgeport  -The family residence during World War II. Around the corner from

Adath Yeshurun (Butler Avenue)- my grandfather's synagogue, my father's synagogue and my synagogue from a very young age until 1993 went it closed. Great High Holy day memories.

From Susan:
The Kantrowitz Family moved around a lot. They lived on Prairie Avenue and Gallatin Street in Providence too.The Army-Navy store was on Weybosset Street. Family always had a border named Frank Dean too. Frank moved with them from Providence to Bridgeport and back.
My dad attended McKinley and Waltersville Schools in Bridgeport and graduated from Peace Street School and Technical High School in Providence. Uncle Jack graduated from  Warren Harding High School.

Uncle Harry's liquor store, (and Bubbe's) Campbell avenue, West Haven. Sodas for the nieces and nephews (Orange Nehi for me). Voting for Miss Rheingold -

Bubbe and Harry' apartment - West Haven - Every Sunday afternoon. NY Giants football on TV, wonderful holiday feasts.

Jack, Judy, Seth. Ashley home - West Haven - the only place I ever slept away from home (and then only twice?) except 3 weeks in summer camp when I was 14, until I went away to college.

Jack was the builder of this house on Riverside Drive in Fairfield.

Office of our family pediatrician - Me, Deb, Matthew AND Bethany and Rick.

Very moving experience visiting the cemetery in West Haven - Bubbe used to tell us during our annual visits -"Someday I will be there."
